This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Education Futures Institute (EFI) in the Queensland Department of Education. The EFI is a key system initiative in the department's education strategy, Equity and Excellence: Realising the potential of every student, to empower departmental staff, educators, school and system leaders to build professional expertise through high quality, targeted capability development across their career. As a project officer, you will play an important role in leading and coordinating the delivery of high-quality, targeted professional learning.

About The Capability Branch

The Capability branch is located in the Schools and Student Support Division. The Capability branch is committed to a thriving and capable workforce equipped with the skills and confidence to support every student to realise their potential. A key part of the Capability branch is the Education Futures Institute (EFI) that delivers high-quality, evidence-informed and equitable capability development for a diverse workforce across key career stages.

The EFI provides high quality, targeted professional learning for staff located in metropolitan, regional, rural and remote locations across the state. The EFI empowers staff with the skills, knowledge and capability to excel in their role.

About The Role

As a Project Officer, you will play an important role in leading and coordinating the delivery of high-quality professional learning.

Key Functions Of This Role Include

  • Planning and coordinating capability programs and associated activities to meet key objectives and timelines.
  • Working collaboratively with staff, key stakeholders and delivery partners to support effective implementation of key capability programs and initiatives.
  • Supporting administration and organisation of program activities, including program planning, communications, procurement, budget, reporting and monitoring.
  • Preparing planning documentation, reports, presentations and other written correspondence.
  • Supporting program monitoring and evaluation activities to achieve continuous improvement.


The project officer reports to the Manager, School Support and Corporate Capability, Education Futures Institute, based in the Brisbane CBD Office.

  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and organisation skills and can work across a number of priorities and manage competing demands.
  • Communicate with a high standard of written and oral communication skills.
  • Develop positive relationships and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Enjoy working with a diverse team to deliver outcomes and make a positive impact in education.


The following desirable skills would be highly regarded although not mandatory:

  • Experience in department platforms including Content Manager, Corporate Travel Management, SAP.
  • Tracking of departmental correspondence.
  • Knowledge of department processes including procurement, finance, human resources, and travel.
  • Experience in departmental or event organisation.
  • MS Office programs including MS Teams and MS OneNote
