The Role
Your Mission: Secure Australia's Strategic Submarine Advantage for Decades to Come
This is not just another asset management role. This is a unique opportunity to directly influence one of Australia's most critical defence capabilities and shape its future. As an Asset Manager for the Collins Class submarine fleet, you will safeguard a world-class and highly capable submarine that is vital to Australia's sovereignty and the deterrence of conflict.
The importance of this program cannot be overstated. Success in the Collins Class directly underpins Australia's readiness for the next generation of submarines. Your contribution to optimising these boats ensures Australia is best prepared to receive, operate, and sustain the future Virginia Class and AUKUS-built submarines. You are not just managing an existing asset; you are paving the way for the future.
This is a strategic leadership role where your technical acumen and judgement will influence senior leaders. You will have the autonomy to investigate complex issues, pioneer innovative sustainment strategies, and make evidence-based decisions that have a real-world impact on national security.
If you are a strategic thinker with a passion for complex technology and a desire to contribute to a mission that will define Australia's defence capability for generations, we want to hear from you.
  • Develop, implement, and manage whole-of-life asset management strategies and plans for your designated submarine systems.
  • Provide authoritative advice to senior leadership on system health, making recommendations that balance performance, cost, and risk.
  • Lead engagement with stakeholders across the Royal Australian Navy, industry partners, and technical authorities to ensure integrated and effective sustainment.
  • Drive the resolution of systemic issues, including analysing defect reports, managing obsolescence, and evaluating maintenance activities to optimise performance.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted within a framework of legislation, established principles, and Defence's mission.

About our Team
Our Team: A Vital National Enterprise

Our team is the custodian of Australia's potent Collins Class submarine fleet, responsible for its complete whole-of-life management-from complex sustainment and deep maintenance to delivering cutting-edge upgrades.
We do not work in isolation. Success is delivered through a vital national enterprise, uniting Australian Public Servants, uniformed Royal Australian Navy members, and specialist industry partners. Your role will be at the heart of this collaboration, ensuring all parties are aligned towards a single goal: delivering a strategic capability for the nation.
Our team is a diverse blend of engineers, project managers, technical specialists, and strategists. We are bound by a shared commitment to excellence, rigorous problem-solving, and ensuring the submarines we manage are safe, reliable, and available to protect Australia's interests. By joining us, you become a central player in one of the country's most critical and technologically advanced endeavours.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our Ideal Candidate: A Technical Strategist and Influencer
You are more than just a technical expert; you are a strategic thinker who connects complex engineering detail to the bigger picture. You excel at translating system data into actionable intelligence for senior leaders.
We are looking for:
  • A Technical Strategist: You have a proven background in managing complex assets (e.g., in Defence, aerospace, maritime, mining, rail, or energy) and can develop effective long-term sustainment plans.
  • An Influential Communicator: You can confidently negotiate with and influence diverse stakeholders, from uniformed Navy personnel and industry partners to technical specialists and senior executives.
  • A Data-Driven Decision Maker: You possess the sound judgement to perform systematic analysis of performance, cost, and risk data (e.g., Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety - RAMS) to justify critical decisions.
  • A Proactive Leader: You can set priorities, drive workflow, and motivate a team to deliver exceptional results in a high-tempo environment
