What is the role?
Reporting to the HR Manager, you’ll lead the end-to-end payroll function and play a key role in how the function runs and improves over time. This isn’t just a processing role – we’re looking for someone who brings deep payroll expertise, can navigate compliance confidently, and help shape smarter systems and ways of working.
The key responsibilities include:

Leading end-to-end weekly payroll for approximately 600 employees across multiple entities.

Managing time and attendance data and associated processes within the payroll system.

Interpreting Modern Awards and legislation to confidently manage complex matters including back payments and termination calculations.

Processing payroll tax, superannuation, allowances, and other payroll-related payments.

Act as a key contact for payroll queries and work collaboratively with internal teams to meet payroll deadlines and ensure accurate, timely delivery.

Ensuring compliance with all payroll-related legislation, tax, super, and reporting obligations.

Driving improvements to payroll systems and processes and advising on best-practice frameworks that support scale, compliance, and efficiency.
Who are we looking for?

Known for lifting payroll beyond the basics – you're confident advising on compliance, shaping smarter workflows, and partnering with HR and Finance to improve how payroll operates.

Proven experience in a similar standalone payroll role, ideally within hospitality, retail, or hotel industries.

Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and Award interpretation – experience with the Restaurant Industry Award is highly regarded.

Exposure to New Zealand payroll and entitlements would be highly regarded.

A proactive and solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.

Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and confidentiality.

Experience with Employment Hero (EH) payroll software is advantageous.

Hands-on experience providing technical payroll support beyond processing, including end of year processes, audits, system improvements, and resolving complex issues.

Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills for a collaborative approach.
