The Manager – Marketing and Communication leads a team of five high-performing professionals across marketing, content production, communications, and digital platforms. The role blends strategic oversight with hands-on delivery, balancing leadership and planning with the practical implementation of marketing and communications activities. You will be responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of integrated strategies that promote the Faculty’s profile, primarily supporting student recruitment, outreach, and research promotion in close collaboration with other UQ units.

Based at the St Lucia campus, the position may also require occasional travel to UQ’s Gatton campus, Brisbane CBD, and other locations as needed.

As a key member of a cross-functional team, you will work closely with internal stakeholders to help deliver on Faculty priorities and KPIs—bringing together strategic vision, day-to-day coordination, and an enthusiasm for marketing and communication that connects and inspires.

Key responsibilities will include:

Planning, development and implementation:

  • Lead development and implementation of the Faculty Marketing and Communication Plan, ensuring alignment with the overarching unit annual plan and priorities and ensuring integration with enterprise strategies and campaigns.

  • Manage the development of marketing and communication activities, materials and content to support domestic and international student recruitment, research promotion, facilities and services use, advancement priorities, and positively position the Faculty of Science, ensuring consistency with University branding and tone.

Content creation and management:

  • Lead the development and delivery of contemporary digital and offline marketing content production, including the use of data and insights, ensuring best practice and alignment with enterprise strategies.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of Faculty, School, and research entity websites, ensuring they are current, user-friendly, and aligned with university standards.

Team leadership and development:

  • Effectively lead, manage, and mentor the marketing and communications team to achieve expectations, goals and key performance indicators.

Stakeholder engagement and relationship building:

  • Foster productive relationships across the Faculty to identify and promote opportunities to showcase programs, research, achievements, external services.

  • Serve as a liaison for internal stakeholders and clients, coordinating integrated activities in conjunction with relevant central functions and Faculty organisation units.

  • Collaborate across the university marketing and communications and future students functions to ensure coordinated planning and delivery and achieve optimum outcomes.

About You
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline, eg. marketing, business, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.

  • At least five years’ experience in a marketing and communications or marketing related management position with extensive experience in developing, implementing and evaluating successful, integrated plans within complex contexts.

  • A thorough understanding of current marketing, communication, engagement and content techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience in analysing trends and adapting services and strategies accordingly together with proven ability to conduct evaluations to enhance service delivery and outcomes.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing human, physical and financial resources and brand and reputation management within a dynamic and complex environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with integrity, diplomacy and sensitivity in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated high level of organisational skills, including the ability to identify and initiate improvements to business practices, and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse array of academic and professional clients and stakeholders.

Experience in higher education or similar complex large organisation is desirable.
