The Role
Reporting to the Discipline Leader Electronics and Software Engineering, the Senior Electronics Engineer is accountable under limited guidance to undertake electronic design, analysis, simulation, review tasks and activities of considerable complexity. The tasks will involve the appropriate application of established principles in order to maintain professional engineering standards.
As a Senior Electronics Engineer, you will employ your expertise in the development of electronic, software, and embedded systems, from initial concept through to in-service use. You will be required to demonstrate initiative and the capability for innovative thought as applied to design work, be capable of working both in a team and individual setting, and be comfortable adapting to changing priorities in an operational environment. You will also have opportunities to share your expertise and coach other members of the team.
The role will involve work within a framework of legislation, established principals and methods of work, and as such Chartered Professional Engineer status (or eligibility to obtain this status) is required. Through the role, you will be required to engage with other stakeholders, including from across DST Group, the ADF, and industry/academia to identify expectations and concerns and develop engineering design solutions to achieve beneficial outcomes.

Research Engineering provides professional engineering and advanced fabrication to DSTG to enable delivery of products, prototypes and models for research, development and experimentation. Research Engineering fuses talented professional engineering and technical staff with world’s best design software and cutting edge fabrication capability.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in the role and take the technical lead in design and development of robust electronic, software, and electro-mechanical designs and systems across a wide range of domains. The successful candidate for the role will be able to demonstrate the following qualities:
- Experience in designing Analog RF front end
- Experience in design and development of complex FPGA hardware
- Strong technical background in software, FPGA Firmware.
- Engineering leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
- Provide technical electronics-electrical knowledge and advice.
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience.
- Develop strong collaborative relationships with other divisions within DSTG and promote the capabilities of Electronic and Software Engineering discipline.
Our ideal candidate will have an interest in producing high quality work, and seek to continually improve and broaden their skills. They will be willing to work both independently or within a design team, and will be adaptable to changing requirements that occur within a research environment. They will have good communications skills, both written and verbal.
EligibilitySecurity Clearance
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 2”.

The S&T5/EL1 Senior Electronics Engineer position requires:
- academic qualifications in one or more of the following related fields of research; or
- relevant vocational qualifications; or
- relevant skills and work experience.
