Primary objective
To provide high quality clinical services, under the guidance and supervision of specialist staff, through the relevant
Department to Alice Springs Hospital, Alice Springs and Barkly region/fringe areas of Western Australia and South Australia.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strong leadership and manage all aspects of the day-to-day activities of the Department of Medicine, focusing

on patient safety and quality of services.
2. Supervise the day to day activities of interns and residents and ensure the overall quality of clinical care and the medical

record.
3. Participate in the on-call roster as required to ensure the proper functioning of the hospital.
4. Initiate and partake in quality management, peer review and ongoing personal medical education programs.
5. Participate in teaching for junior staff and education programs for medical students
6. Undertake research as appropriate.
7. Participate in other duties as delegated by the Head of Department or Executive Director of Medical Services.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia
2. A minimum of 3 years relevant postgraduate experience.
3. Ability to work as part of a team.
4. Interest in Indigenous health.
5. Good verbal skills and good written skills.
6. Able to directly manage and supervise junior staff

Desirable
1. Working towards a recognised training pathway or specialist qualification – trainees in other FRACP specialties or

ACRRM, ICU and GP training pathways are all encouraged to apply.
2. Possession of AMC certificate where relevant.
3. Demonstrated ability to assume administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
4. Ability to work in a cross cultural environment.
5. Flexibility to operate in a changing environment
