About Us
The State Cinema is a Hobart institution that has entertained generations of Tasmanians for over 100 years, playing a major role in the social and cultural life of the Hobart community. With eleven screens plus a Rooftop Cinema, there is always a wide range of local and international films on offer. A large Café Bar serves light meals along with a beautiful Bookstore with a hand-picked selection of stationery, books and gifts.
The Role
This is an exciting Supervisory position in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment, suitable for hospitality pros who take pleasure in delivering fine service (and fine coffee and wine!) to a constant flow of cinema-goers and café regulars.
Alongside normal day-to-day café and cinema duties, our Café supervisors:

Run café shifts, supervising staff and monitoring that safe and correct practices are carried out at all times

Communicate effectively with the F&B Team as well as Cinema Managers to ensure smooth operations across the complex including managing shift breaks and end times

Open and close the Café and Box Office

Provide leadership and coaching to team members, setting the example with a hands-on approach and can-do attitude

Complete stock ordering and management of stock levels and rotation

Maintain cleaning and maintenance procedures and materials

Handle customer enquiries and feedback

Often act in a key barista role throughout the day
Confident barista skills, a high level of attention to detail and at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role is essential. We are a 7-day-and-night-a-week business, so shifts vary across days/nights/weekends and public holidays, but for candidates looking for regular hours, we can offer a lifestyle-friendly rotating roster that includes 2 out of 4 weekends off each month. Hours available are between 20 - 35hrs per week.
