Essential:
- Registered as an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
- Current practicing certificate
- Must have Medication Endorsement
- Adhere to ANMC National Competency Standards
- Demonstrated clinical competence and expertise (or working towards) in nephrology nursing.
- Ability to continuously reflect on nursing practice and apply learning as appropriate.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to operate within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated organisational, decision-making and problem-solving skills, combined with the ability to be self-directed within scope of practice.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively perform staff and patient education.
- Knowledge of nursing, nephrology and other professional issues which impact on nursing practice within the specialty.
- Knowledge of infection control / hygiene principles and implementation of this knowledge into daily practice.
- Understanding of the Quality improvement process and risk management obligations

- Basic computer literacy and office skills.

Key Responsibilities
- Participates in the design, planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care within the haemodialysis clinical setting in consultation with the Registered Nurse.
- Performs patient assessment and provides dialysis therapy to patients receiving guidance and support from registered nursing staff as required.
- Cannulation and delivery of Haemodialysis treatments.
- Administer dialysis related medication.
- Organise referrals and conduct tests under direction, performing technical function within certain areas, e.g. BGL.
- Advanced patient assessment to include the use of Blood Temperature Monitoring, Blood Volume Monitoring and Online Clearance Monitoring.
- Educate, inform, council and support patients and families on general and clinical information relevant to patients care as directed by the Dialysis Clinic Manager.
- Management of a portfolio within the Nursing team i.e. Access management.
- Participates in quality activities for service improvement, clinical research and nursing policy/procedure development and review, utilising evidence and best practice principles.
- Cleans exterior of dialysis machines, patient chairs and over-bed tables as per clinic procedure
- Sets up dialysis machines as per procedure.
- Performs general observations of patient and machine during dialysis sessions.
- Attends to the re-stocking of consumables in the stock room and trolley/s as required for daily operation of the Centre.
- Coordinates collection of blood samples by pathology lab, help spin blood before collection.
- Ensures/promotes a safe, secure and healthy working environment as detailed in the Workplace Health and Safety policy (FMEAU-28).
- Engages in internal and external in-service activities to enhance / maintain
skills and knowledge.
- Maintains accurate patient information in medical records, including Therapy Data Management System (TDMS) and abides by confidentiality and Privacy Policy.
