The CompanyTasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd is a state-owned company responsible for developing, owning, and operating irrigation schemes across Tasmania to support the growth of agriculture. It currently manages 19 schemes and inherited infrastructure, delivering reliable water at the lowest sustainable price. The ultimate aim is to increase the farmgate value of the State’s agricultural sector to $10 billion a year by 2050.
Operating under a public–private funding model, all schemes are designed to be economically viable, environmentally sustainable, and community-supported. Each is built to last over 100 years and provides water with more than 95% annual reliability.
The RoleThe Environmental Advisor – Projects & Approvals, is responsible for contributing to the management of the environmental assessment and approvals processes for Tasmanian Irrigation infrastructure projects. The role will provide specialist environmental planning, project and approvals support and advice in the execution of Tasmanian Irrigation new build and augmentation projects.
Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesDevelop project scopes for environmental investigations supporting irrigation scheme design.Contribute to strategies for timely environmental approvals of TI projects.Ensure environmental impact assessments are completed.Collaborate with project managers to identify risks and mitigation measures.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant environmental protection laws, policies and guidelines. Liaise with regulators, stakeholders, and key parties.Prepare and submit environmental and heritage permit applications.Advise project teams on best practices for environmental management and ensure environmental considerations are integrated into project plans and designs.Provide technical expertise to support environmental management plans and compliance monitoring.Investigate environmental incidents as required.Review environmental reports from external consultants.Input into contract management processes, including CEMPs and environmental controls.Manage compliance evidence capture and reporting, including audits during construction and operation.Develop and deliver environmental training to project teams.Participate in environmental audits and compliance reviews.Perform other duties as directed by the Environmental Lead – Projects & Approvals.

Required Skills and ProficienciesTertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Law, Engineering, Natural Resource Management or related discipline.Experience in environmental approvals, in particular, EPBC Act approvals.Comprehensive understanding of Federal and Tasmanian environmental protection laws and permitting/approval processes.Experience in managing environmental assessment and permitting processes.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated stakeholder management skills.Excellent organisational and project management skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Familiarity with environmental software such as GISDrivers Licence
DesirableAccreditation in environmental auditingProject management experience
