Your Opportunity
As the Regional Finance Manager you will be responsible for:
- Lead and manage the regional Financial Operations team to provide strategic advice in relation to organisational policies and procedures, legislative and statutory requirements, ensuring currency and compliance.
- Identify efficiencies within the Region and challenge the status quo to improve margin and ensure long term financial sustainability.
This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity unless otherwise determined.
The position will be based primarily at South Brisbane Campus however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic finance leadership and advice for the region, being an influential member of the region’s Leadership Group.
- Work collaboratively and effectively within the State-wide Financial Operations portfolio ensuring consistency of service to internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with TAFE Queensland Financial Services Team to ensure delivery of all financial and other reporting responsibilities for the region are within TAFE Queensland’s financial governance framework.
- Work closely with regional General Manager and senior management to assist in understanding underlying financial and commercial performance and associated key business drivers, adding value to the interpretation of financial outcomes and the activity that underpins them.
- Lead the region’s annual budget process, forecast processes and ensure the integrity and accuracy of all reporting requirements.
- Influence senior management action regarding consolidated budget and forecast positions, challenging assumptions where appropriate and highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Provide leadership, manage priorities and mitigate risk that ensures coordination and functional outcomes of the regions Financial Operations team to achieve efficient and effective business outcomes.
- Contribute to and influence through network collaboration across TAFE Queensland.
- Provide leadership on individual and team performance and future goals.
- Manage internal controls that are consistent with the financial delegations and organisational policies to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and applicable Accounting Standards.
- Promote continuous business efficiencies by reducing cost, growing revenue and enhancing outcomes.
- Ensure day to day activities align with business operations and adhere to TAFE Queensland’s Code of Conduct including the principles and practices of employment equity, ethical conduct and workplace health and safety.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
- Proven leadership skills incorporating integrity, authenticity, resilience & high self-awareness.
- Experienced in financial management including comprehensive knowledge and application of current financial accounting practices and procedures, including relevant legislation, standards and policies applicable to operating within Queensland public sector.
- Ability to communicate with influence through liaising with multiple levels across the organisation on best practice providing advice on sensitive and complex issues, challenging business assumptions and influencing commitment to agreed outcomes.
- Strong commercial acumen and demonstrated experience of using detailed data analytics to influence strategic decision making in a rapidly changing and competitive multi-disciplinary business environment.
- Enabling a culture in which people thrive, motivating and inspiring staff to perform well while building capability.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and policies applicable to operating within Queensland public sector
- A tertiary qualification in Business Accountancy/Finance/Commerce or related field.
- Current membership with an accredited professional body, such as CPA Australia (Certified Practising Accountants) or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior financial management position, with at least 10 years practical financial experience.
