Primary objective
Provide high level leadership in curriculum development, delivery and monitoring to achieve optimal educational outcomes
for students with complex disability and challenging behaviours including adherence to Departmental policies and
processes, advising teaching staff, working in partnership with students and their families.
Context statement
Kintore Street School is a special school in the Katherine region that caters for students with moderate and severe
intellectual and/or multiple physical impairment, aged 3½ to 18 years. The school provides individual programs to suit the
Academic, Educational, Social, Emotional, future employment and recreational needs of all our students. The whole school
community embraces our motto “Towards Independence.”
Key duties and responsibilities
1. In collaboration with the Principal, provide leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum within the
school to deliver effective personalised educational programs that meet the needs of students with disability.
2. Enact and foster partnerships with families, community, agencies and professional networks to achieve educational
outcomes for students in line with the school strategic plan.
3. Provide leadership and support for the development, implementation, and review of school policies, procedures, and
strategic planning through collaboration with all stakeholders.
4. Support the Principal and contribute to the planning and delivery of professional learning and advice to staff and
professional networks which grows the knowledge and skills of quality staff.
5. Undertake appropriate teaching duties and deputise for the Principal when required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, a Current Working with Children Clearance
Notice (or ability to obtain)
2. Proven leadership in the delivery of Australian Curriculum including, educational programs, School Wide Positive
Behaviours and management of student welfare and/or behaviour management programs for students with disabilities
within a Special School.
3. Proven ability to utilise data to lead and participate in teams and mentor staff to achieve agreed outcomes.
4. Proven highly effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, enabling the development of productive
partnerships and networks.
5. Utilising data to allocate resources and effectively implement, monitor and evaluate curriculum, student support and
wellbeing, especially in the areas of special needs and inclusion
Desirable
1. Post graduate qualification in educational leadership or equivalent with additional qualifications in special education.
