We are looking for a detail-oriented and organised Finance Officer to join our local council client north of the river. In this temporary role, you'll support the Accounting & Finance team in delivering accurate and timely financial services.

Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain and reconcile financial records and ledgers on a regular basis.
- Support month-end and year-end financial reporting and audits as required.
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with local government accounting standards and legislative requirements.
- Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers or contractors to resolve finance-related queries.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance team and processes.
Profile
A successful Finance Officer should have:
- Qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Previous experience in transactional finance or a similar finance officer role, preferably within local government or the public sector.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Familiarity with local government accounting practices and relevant legislation is highly desirable.
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small finance team.
- Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with Synergy software is a plus.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
