How will you contribute?

We are seeking an experienced professional to join us as a Senior Performance Auditor on a permanent or temporary basis. Individuals with a background in internal or external audit, policy analysis and implementation, or research and evaluation will bring skills key to the successful delivery of the Senior Performance Auditor role. In this role you will contribute to the delivery of the Audit Office vision, mission, values, goals and strategies by undertaking complex research and analysis to support the development of key performance audit conclusions and findings. You will also be undertaking specific performance audit assignments as part of a team to deliver high quality performance audits, with a range of complexity depending on skills and experience.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

• Ensure all audit work within personal responsibility is completed effectively and efficiently and meets the requirements of the Audit Office’s audit methodology, professional standards and legislation.

• Collect, check and analyse information related to matters of audit interest, to provide a basis of audit evidence to support findings and conclusions, including statistical analysis of both quantitative and qualitative information.

• Build personal competency, knowledge and technical proficiency to contribute to more complex audit assignments.

• Ensure quality and timely audit outcomes are achieved by maintaining strong and professional relationships with clients and proactively communicating with internal and external stakeholders.

• Collaborate with relevant Audit Office staff to help identify risks and challenges in relevant areas of the public sector.

• Identify critical issues that may adversely impact outcomes and escalate them appropriately.

• Assist in providing sound and well-reasoned audit documentation to support conclusions and recommendations made in reports to parliament.

• Contribute to the successful delivery of Performance Audit Branch objectives, including embracing developments in performance audit systems and processes, and other strategic change initiatives.

What will you need to succeed?

We are seeking someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and good professional judgement to solve problems. The ideal candidate will have the proficiency to analyse complex, substantial and contrasting information and distil it into relevant audit evidence. They would be able to contribute to the drafting of compelling reports that address objectives and criteria with findings and conclusions that are supported by appropriate and well-presented evidence within a defined time and budget. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior management, employees and other key stakeholders.

You will also need:

• A tertiary qualification in an appropriate analytic discipline such as business, economics, social science or law, and/or significant relevant experience

• Demonstrated experience in research and analysis, policy implementation and/or evaluation.

• Understanding and knowledge of how the public sector operates.

• Australian permanent resident or citizen or New Zealand citizen.

• Successful police check.
