We have an exciting opportunity in the newly established Director of Board and External Engagement roleto join us at the QNMU and make a difference to the lives of nurses and midwives!

This role will be based at our Brisbane (West End) office.

About the QNMU

The Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union (QNMU) is the industrial and professional organisation for nurses and midwives working in public and private health and aged care in Queensland. The QNMU seeks to promote and defend the industrial, professional, social, political, and democratic interests of over 75,000 members. We have over 200 employees including organisers, professionals and administrative personnel, and manage a multi-million dollar operating budget.

Why is the role exciting?

Reporting directly to the QNMU Secretary, you will represent QNMU on relevant external boards and manage, advise and coordinate Governance and Risk Management within the QNMU.

In this role, we are looking for a high performing professional to ensure the Secretary and Assistant Secretaries have timely information to make informed decisions.

You will be part of the senior leadership team of QNMU and will provide the QNMU and Council with advice, guidance, coordination and support relating to governance, risk management and compliance structures, frameworks and practices, that meet statutory requirements and industry standards.

We are looking for some specific skills and experience to fulfill this position:

  • Experience in corporate governance within a complex environment
  • Strong stakeholder management and demonstrated competence and confidence in senior relationship building and external networking
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information, deal with challenges creatively, achieve business focused solutions and prepare and present clearly written reports at an Executive and Council level
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Extremely versatile and dedicated to efficient productivity
  • Demonstrated experience analysing and improving functions and processes
  • Display high level ability to review and analyse complex situations, procedures and systems and to recommend changes where appropriate
  • High level communication skills – interpersonal, written and verbal
  • Personal integrity, and commitment to confidentiality and discretion
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, establish priorities, use initiative and be proactive in raising and dealing with issues
