About us
The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
The Senior Manager is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team of professional staff to: participate in national and cross-government projects; provide specialist and strategic advice to the Minister and senior management, particularly regarding proposed legislation; prepare cabinet submissions and complex policy related correspondence; establish and manage the Minister's legislative program and develop regulations and other subordinate legislation and liaise with Parliamentary Counsel.
The Senior Manager role requires the ability to proactively develop and maintain effective relationships with key external and government stakeholders, using influence and negotiation skills, alongside effective written and verbal communication skills, to support the provision of accurate, timely and audience-appropriate advice in a dynamic environment.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Managing and motivating a team of experienced staff leading major policy, strategy and legislative reform projects aligned to the department's outcomes and objectives.
- Providing high-level, authoritative advice to the senior executives and government on policy, strategy or data projects within a complex policy environment.
- Engaging, consulting and working collaboratively with our internal and external partners across the broader justice system, including non-government agencies to deliver on major projects and priorities.
- Negotiating with and influencing key consumer and industry stakeholders and stakeholders across government to resolve complex problems that have system wide and community impacts.
- Working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team of Regulation Policy to manage the preparation and lodgement of cabinet and parliamentary documents and the drafting of ministerial and other correspondence for the Consumer Affairs portfolio.
Mandatory requirements
- A tertiary qualification in law, economics and/or public policy is desirable.
