Your Role
You will be an experienced and motivated General Practitioner looking to join our Senior Practitioner Early Assessment and Review (SPEAR) team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our dynamic Emergency Department (ED), providing early assessment, targeted management, and timely care for patients awaiting medical review.
You will work in close collaboration with ED teams, you will help optimise patient flow by selecting and managing suitable presentations in line with your clinical expertise. Whether you're confident managing minor trauma, acute exacerbations of chronic illness, or paediatric cases, this role empowers you to use your experience where it’s most effective.
This is a casual role with family friendly evening shifts – 5:00pm to 10:00pm Monday to Sunday
The Position

Perform early assessment and management of selected ED patients in the waiting room stream.

Deliver direct patient care, with a goal of managing or discharging 6–8 patients per shift (recognising flexibility during orientation).

Initiate appropriate investigations and treatment while ensuring accurate documentation and discharge planning.

Liaise with ED consultants, specialists, and community-based GPs as needed.

Escalate concerns to ED physicians or direct clinical handover.

Support optimal ED flow while maintaining patient safety and high standards of care.
You will be a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and have a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or equivalent with preferably 3 years post fellowship experience.
You will have emergency, rural or remote practice experience and have confidence managing undifferentiated presentations and escalating appropriately.
Highly desirable will be the competition if ALS2 or equivalent and procedural confidence with cannulation, wound closure & suturing, simple plastering.
