People & Payroll Officer - EOI (Maternity Leave Contract)

The Shire of Carnarvon is seeking expressions of interest for an experienced and motivated People & Payroll Officer to join our team on an 8-month maternity leave contract, with the potential for extension. We welcome applications from individuals interested in full-time, part-time, casual, or job-share arrangements.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to a values-driven organisation that plays a key role in delivering services to the local community. As part of our People & Culture team, you will support critical functions across payroll, recruitment, training and generalist human resources.

About the Role

This role is responsible for end-to-end payroll processing and will also provide support across a range of People & Culture functions, including:

  • Accurate and timely payroll processing and reconciliations

  • Supporting recruitment processes from advertising through to onboarding

  • Supporting internal and external training planning

  • Providing general HR and administrative support to staff and managers

  • Work Health & Safety administrative support

  • Providing general HR and administrative support to staff and managers

About You

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Demonstrated experience in payroll processing, preferably using HRIS or payroll systems

  • Strong understanding of HR administrative functions, with experience in recruitment or training coordination highly regarded

  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Well-developed communication and problem-solving skills

  • A positive, collaborative, and service-oriented approach

Previous experience in local government or a regulated environment is desirable but not essential.
