A base salary of $61,623 pa with competency-based increments up to $71,482 pa + 12% employer contribution to superannuation

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:

THE POSITION:
To provide plant operations and civil plumbing support to the Network team and other work groups, including assisting with operational works as required.


Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out water and sewer maintenance and construction.
  • Clean and maintain pumping stations.
  • To work in confined spaces as directed in accordance with level of competency.
  • Complete relevant paperwork required for the Hydraulics section.
  • Minor plant operations to construction and maintenance gangs including earthworks, drainage works, water and sewer works and pavement construction.
  • Maintain plant in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Ensure all routine plant maintenance and daily service reports are completed.
  • Drive and operate plant in accordance with best practice.
  • Provide advice to the public in a polite and effective manner.
  • General labouring duties as required.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
  • Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
  • Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Based on a 38 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines. These times may vary due to operational requirements and will be determined by the supervisor.
  • This position will be required to be on call outside normal working hours on a roster basis, to attend emergency and/or breakdowns. Payment for this will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and the AlburyCity Essential Services Agreement.
  • In line with the provisions of the Local Government (State) Award, this position will receive either the Level 1 or 2 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance, depending on the nature of the work undertaken
  • This position has been assessed as Category C under AlburyCity's Dress Code category. Category C is defined as outdoors; uniforms in this category are compulsory and are provided with the position.
  • This position involves working in a predominantly outdoor
    environment where a varying range of temperatures, weather conditions and walking surfaces may be experienced. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day - depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. The use of relevant work method statements and appropriate WHS standards are an integral part of the role. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position.
  • This position will be provided with vaccination against the following infectious diseases:
    • Hepatitis A
    • Hepatitis B
  • This position is subject to pre-employment and ongoing respiratory function testing for potential occupational exposure to asbestos or other hazardous dusts in accordance with AlburyCity procedures.
  • This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
  • This position is located at the Albury/Lavington Depots with frequent visits to external sites/depots and Council Administration building as required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Class C (standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have and maintain)
  • Construction Induction Card
  • Confined Spaces Certificate or willing to obtain (compulsory to have and maintain)

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's Licence
  • Traffic Controller's Certificate (Blue and Yellow cards)

EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant experience working in a civil construction environment

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Experience and demonstrated ability in:

  • Various plant operations which may include Trucks (Medium Rigid Driver's Licence), Tipping Trucks, and/or Skid Steer Loaders
  • Civil Construction methods
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Work, Health and Safety (WHS)
  • Roads and Traffic rules and regulations
  • Small plant operations
  • Various types of pipe laying
  • Fundamental literacy skills in receiving and executing instructions
