The Opportunity

The Adolescent Family Violence Practitioner provides intensive and innovative support to young people affected by or using family violence, focusing on risk assessment, safety planning, and emotional skill-building through counselling and coaching. They work closely with the Integrated Family Services team to ensure holistic support for both the young person and their wider family.

Key Responsibility Areas

The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting on-going risk assessments and developing safety planning with young people to mitigate risk and ensure safety.
  • Providing both in-office and outreach counselling support to young people using Family Violence.
  • Working in collaboration with the Integrated Family Services to enable a whole of family approach in supporting the young person.
  • Linking the young person in with support services as required.
  • Liaising with the Family Safety &Wellbeing Leadership Team (Team Leader and
  • Practice Leader) and relevant program staff when necessary.
  • Ensuring services are delivered to quality standards, comply with relevant legislation and achieve contractual requirements.
  • Maintaining professional documentation and administrative systems according to agency and legislative requirements.
  • Commitment to research and evaluation and application of evidence-based practice.
  • Compliance with the organisation’s Program Planning and Evaluation Framework.

Other Key Selection Criteria include:

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Bachelors Degree), in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or similar with specialisation in both Family Violence and working with adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability in undertaking assessments and working effectively with
    young people who use violence and have complex needs.
  • Experience in working with and understanding of developmental and therapeutic needs of young people who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect.
  • Demonstrated both clinical and outreach experience working with young people.
  • High level of performance and innovation preferably relating to assertive and developmentally appropriate engagement.
  • Ability to respond to challenging behaviours and an understanding of the origins of these behaviours when working with young people including trauma and attachment.
  • Strong understanding of intersectionality and the broader service system is essential.
  • Dedicated, reliable, self-driven
