Brevard Zoo

Vice President of Marketing

Located along the Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida, the Brevard Zoo is an AZA-accredited facility with a diverse collection of over 900 animals representing nearly 200 species. It is also home to the Sea Turtle Healing Center for rehabilitation of wild marine turtles. Brevard Zoo is well-known for its strong conservation ethic and unique attractions, such as kayaking through the Africa area, giraffe feeding, and rhinoceros and various other animal encounters.

The Vice President of Marketing serves as the architect of the organization’s brand vision, shaping and elevating the master brand strategy that seamlessly unites the East Coast Zoological Foundation , the zoo, and our future aquarium. This senior leadership role requires a visionary leader with a proven track record in developing and executing high-impact marketing strategies and campaigns that drive brand elevation, revenue growth, and audience engagement. The role will focus on big-picture leadership, ensuring marketing efforts align with long-term organizational goals and brand positioning while expanding the brand’s visibility at a national level.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED :

  • 10-15 years’ experience in marketing leadership roles
  • B achelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field

PREFERRED / DESIRED :

  • 15 or more years’ experience preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Leadership, Brand Development, and Creative Innovation

  • Serves as the senior strategic leader for marketing and communications, establishing a forward-looking, integrated marketing vision that drives growth, deepens engagement, and elevates the East Coast Zoological Foundation (ECZF), Brevard Zoo, and the Bowen Aquarium as national leaders in conservation, education, and immersive experiences.
  • Defines and champions a cohesive brand architecture, ensuring ECZF, the Zoo, and Aquarium each maintain distinct yet interconnected identities that support the mission and long-term strategic goals.
  • Leads the development and implementation of an institutional marketing process that supports all departments and programs through intentional brand management, campaign planning, and storytelling.
  • Serves as a creative thought leader, fostering a culture of innovation by leveraging emerging tools, technologies, and platforms, including AI, digital analytics, and interactive content, to reach and engage diverse audiences in new and compelling ways.
  • Collaborates closely with the Director of Marketing to ensure creative and visual brand development reflects the vibrancy, purpose, and forward momentum of ECZF.
  • Leads big-picture storytelling and messaging strategy across all platforms, ensuring our narratives resonate locally, regionally, and nationally while advancing visibility, guest engagement, and philanthropic support.
  • Oversees the development of high-impact marketing activations, PR strategies, and collaborative opportunities that amplify our voice and mission across new markets.
  • Identifies opportunities to strategically grow the reach of ECZF’s mission, programming, and capital campaign storytelling through creative collaborations, thought leadership, and brand-forward media strategies.
  • Develops brand assets, creative content, and communication strategies to elevate philanthropic storytelling, donor engagement, and campaign milestones.
  • Supports a seamless integration between marketing and philanthropy, aligning messaging calendars, visuals, and digital platforms to advance fundraising objectives and inspire transformational giving.
  • Oversee all agency relationships and internal marketing resources, ensuring all external and internal communications are aligned with brand standards, values, and audience expectations.
  • Serves as a key strategic advisor providing leadership and mentorship to the Director of Marketing and team, building capacity and enhancing capabilities across design, digital, and content functions.
  • Develops and monitors the annual Marketing & Communications budget, strategically allocating resources to support long-term growth, return on investment, and departmental innovation.
  • Explores and implements creative tools and digital resources to scale impact, optimize processes, and strengthen data-informed decision-making.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration and Organizational Integration

  • Works cross-functionally with departments across the organization, including philanthropy, guest experience, conservation learning, operations, and animal departments to ensure that marketing supports shared business goals and mission impact.
  • Leads organization-wide storytelling strategies that reflect our values, celebrate our wins, and inspire internal pride and external engagement.
  • Guides internal and external communications during key organizational moments, including campaign launches, public openings, and brand milestones.
  • Continuously evaluates brand performance, campaign effectiveness, and competitive positioning to inform future strategies.
  • Leads the development of KPIs and reporting mechanisms that demonstrate marketing’s contribution to guest growth, revenue, and donor engagement.
  • Identifies new opportunities to grow our audience, diversify storytelling channels, and expand ECZF’s digital and experiential footprint.
  • Experience leading or co-developing marketing strategies in support of fundraising campaigns or nonprofit mission work.
  • Expertise in building and leading cross-functional teams and managing external agency relationships.
  • Deep knowledge of digital marketing tools, data analytics, and emerging technologies (e.g., AI-powered content generation or customer segmentation).
  • Strong understanding of integrated marketing processes, from ideation and content strategy to campaign execution and performance measurement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and inspire creativity and collaboration.
  • Experience managing marketing budgets and allocating resources to maximize impact and innovation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. If the use of arm / leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.

POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS / HAZARDS :

Indoor office environment most often with frequent movement outdoors. Exposure to extreme heat and weather conditions. Requires Sitting, Standing, Walking, Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Finger Dexterity, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity frequently.

Must be willing to work in inclement weather including temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and high humidity. Frequent movement outdoors with some indoor office environment. Exposure to extreme heat and weather conditions. Requires Sitting, Standing, Walking, Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Finger Dexterity, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity frequently.

WORK SCHEDULE :

May be required to work weekends and nights as necessary. This role will involve a hybrid work schedule, requiring the ability to work both remotely and in office. The specific days in office will be determined based on team needs and individual responsibilities.

TRAVEL :

Occasional travel in and out of county as necessary.
