School-based Vocational Mentoring Roles

Since 2020, the Vocational Mentoring Exchange (an initiative of the Inner Northern LLEN) has recruited, trained and supported over 120 vocational mentors from all walks of life who have volunteered to assist young people from the inner north of Melbourne in their career transition journey.

This group of passionate and skilled volunteers provide much needed mentoring support for disadvantaged/marginalised young people aged 16-25 in school or community settings.

The VME Mentoring Matters program brings volunteers into the VCE Vocational Major classroom weekly for 1-2 hours over a 9 week term. Facilitated by the classroom teacher, in collaboration with the mentor group, you will join other mentors in the classroom to work closely with your small group of 1-3 Year 11 students during their Work Related Skills class.

Through a range of discussions, activities and an excursion into industry, mentors will draw on their own life and work experience to support their mentees to complete the VME Mentoring Matters Program.

Mentors should be over 18, have a current Working With Children Check, Australian work experience, and a desire to support young people to prepare for their transition from school to the world of work.

No previous mentoring experience is required as free and comprehensive training, support and resources will be provided.

If you can spare up to 25 hours in July-September and have a desire to support a young person, we have a range of highly rewarding roles available in Merri-bek, Darebin and Yarra.
