About the Client
Our client is a family office that owns a variety of businesses across Australia. The businesses are run by the management teams of those businesses, and the client is looking to bring on an experienced COO to work with those businesses to ensure operational excellence and to drive profitability.
The family office is a small team but with significant funds to deploy. They are actively looking to grow their investments. With a strong portfolio already generating significant returns, they are actively in the market looking for more places to deploy their growing wealth.
About the Role
As Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will be responsible for executing the corporate strategic initiatives set by the CEO across the businesses owned by the family office. The client is looking for an experienced executive with a history of successful execution and someone who acts as a collaborator that can motivate and bring everyone on board. Reporting to the CEO and working across the businesses owned by the family office, this role will partner with key business leaders to effectively drive efficiencies, growth and best practice operations.
The COO will act as a steward and connector for the family office, developing, sharing and implementing best practice operating models and economies of scale in the areas of:
- Human resources
- Process Improvement
- Safety
- IT
- Business planning; and
- Risk management
These activities will be conducted with transparency, integrity, and
accountability, inspiring trust and confidence among all stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the leadership teams of the various businesses owned by the family office to help [them grow their businesses
- Risk management across the group
- Assisting the businesses in identifying and scaling their businesses
- Providing due diligence support for potential acquisitions in the group
- Stakeholder management including the family owners of the business
- Bringing professional standards of excellence to the group
- Governance, risk management and the head office team
- Identifying potential opportunities to deploy capital
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an experienced business leader with:
- Proven experience as a CEO or COO, with a history of successfully growing and scaling businesses
- Deep business experience including buying businesses and ensuring the businesses reach their full potential
- A team player who works well with others in a supportive environment
- Exceptional communication skills to influence leaders within the business and key stakeholders
- A hands-on approach, with the ability to mentor teams and manage key operational functions
- Someone who been there and done that - with the battle scars and stories to match - the client wants someone who has deep experience in general management and has learned from their many mistakes.
