Your role at St John of God Geelong Hospital

You will act as a responsible and effective team member and leader and assist in the overall clinical management of the ward. As an ANUM, you will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care and supervision of care given by nurses as well as deputising for and assisting the Nursing Unit Manager.

3 East is a dynamic ward with the combined specialties of ENT, Vascular, Plastic surgery and Gynaecology. We are a passionate, young and vibrant team dedicated to providing the highest quality care to all. We also specialise in Paediatric surgical care for procedures including ear, nose and throat, general surgery, dental and orthopaedics.

The Position

  • Supervises nursing practice of all nursing caregivers taking responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered.

  • Initiates reviews and coordinates care of patients with complex health problems.

  • Actively contributes to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty.

  • Responsible and accountable for nominated portfolios as designated by Nurse Manager and actively communicates with Nurse Manager updates.

  • Participates in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.

  • Routinely monitors the results of diagnostic procedures and investigations and report abnormalities as required to the required caregiver.

  • Assists the Nurse Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department.

  • Assists in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Manager, acts as a preceptor as required.

  • Participates in Manager Meetings as well as relevant committees and

  • working parties.

  • Acts as shift coordinator as required and in liaison with the Nurse / After Hours Manager and monitors staffing levels continuously to ensure appropriate numbers of skilled staff are available within the agreed productivity targets.

  • Contributes to planning, problem solving and change management within the Nursing Division throughout the hospital as required.

  • In collaboration with Nurse Unit Manager and Human Resources, monitors and promotes adherence by caregivers to hospital Policies, procedures and standards.

  • All other reasonable duties as directed by the relevant Manager/Supervisor.

You will hold registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse with senior clinical experience in Surgical specialties and have well developed analytical and problem-solving skills. You will have a demonstrated ability to develop and build effective nursing, medical and interdisciplinary relationships and teams.

To succeed you will have delegation, planning, organisational and motivational skills, be committed to on-going education and self-directed learning, and effectively communicate and educate patients, family and staff.

  • Salary : $113,107 to $116,897 per annum (pro rata for part time) plus 12% superannuation
