Katherine West Health Board
Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Cancer Support Aboriginal Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse. This position is well suited to someone with eligible registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse and possess a current practicing certificate. An understanding of Aboriginal cultural values and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities will be highly regarded.
Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

Position Description
About the Opportunity
The Cancer Support role provides culturally safe clinical care, education, health promotion, and care coordination for Aboriginal people living in remote communities in the Katherine West region. The position plays a key role in improving access to cancer screening, supporting clients during their cancer journey, and strengthening connections between community, health services, and support programs.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Deliver cancer screening promotion and education, supporting participation in national screening programs (bowel, cervical, breast, lung and others) and reducing barriers through targeted community education
- Conduct community health promotion activities, such as yarning circles, forums, and awareness campaigns, in partnership with Health Promotion Officers and other team members.
- Offer emotional and practical support throughout the cancer journey, including appointment reminders, transport coordination, access to support services, and other social support services.
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up care, ensuring clients are linked to appropriate health and social services, including allied health, mental health, palliative care, and community support.
