The Role:
EPC Solar is in need for an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong expertise in solar, BESS, and microgrid systems. You will play a key role in the design, verification, and delivery of commercial and utility-scale renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and connection requirements. The role involves detailed electrical design, power system studies, grid connection submissions, and integration of advanced control systems . You will also be involved in project costing, risk and stakeholder management, and provide technical leadership during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases .
This position requires a solid background in renewables & power system modelling, protection coordination, and switchgear design , as well as the ability to liaise with clients, DNSPs, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design of grid-connected and hybrid solar PV systems ranging from 500 kW to multi-MW scale.
- Develop capex and costings for commercial and utility scale renewables projects.
- Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, string plans, etc. using AutoCAD and Solidworks Electrical.
- Carry out protection co-ordination studies and create electrical systems models using ETAP
- Perform advanced load flow, fault level, and arc flash analysis.
- Prepare and submit grid connection applications to DNSPs and be familiar with AEMO connection requirements.
- Design LV and MV switchboards, cable schedules, and earthing systems in compliance with AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 4777, AS/NZS 5033, and AS/NZS 61439.
- Conduct site inspections and technical audits to ensure compliance with electrical safety and performance standards.
- Develop and validate protection relay settings and coordination for complex solar installations using SEL or Schneider relays.
- Develop ATS integration schemes for generators and BESS
- Develop glare analysis reports, DNSP submission packages and AFC and As-built packs.
- Integrate solar systems with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS), including Modbus RTU/TCP and BACnet protocols.
- Liaise with internal project managers, external consultants, and regulatory bodies and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure timely project delivery.
- Support commissioning activities including functional testing, SCADA integration, and inverter and feeder relay configuration.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
- SAA Grid Connect PV Design accreditation(desired)
- Minimum 1 years of post-graduate experience in electrical design for renewable energy or industrial power systems.
- Must be eligible to obtain or currently working towards NER (National Engineering Register) accreditation with Engineers Australia. MIEAust at a minimum.
- Demonstrated experience in solar, BESS, EV Chargers and microgrid project tender preparation.
- Demonstrated experience in grid-connected solar PV systems, including DNSP application processes, technical compliance and AEMO guidelines.
- Proven capability in performing detailed power system studies including: Load flow analysis, short-circuit and fault level calculations, arc flash hazard assessments, protection coordination using ETAP or PowerFactory
- Hands-on experience with the design and specification of LV and MV switchgear, transformers, and protection relays (e.g., SEL, Schneider, ABB).
- PLC programming knowledge (desired).
- Experience in integrating solar PV systems with SCADA, BMS, and EMS platforms using Modbus RTU/TCP, BACnet, and OPC-UA.
- Ability to design and commission inverter-based systems with reactive power control, export limiting, and grid-support functionalities.
- Familiarity with harmonic analysis and mitigation strategies in solar installations.
- Strong understanding of power factor correction.
- Strong understanding of AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 4777, AS/NZS 5033, AS/NZS 61439, and AS/NZS 7000 standards.
- Experience in preparing RPEQ or Chartered Engineer-certified designs (preferred but not mandatory).
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PowerFactory, PVsyst, and Microsoft Project.
- Familiarity with Zuken E3 or EPLAN or similar panel design tool.
- Excellent technical report writing and documentation skills.

- Monday to Friday 8.30 AM to 5.00 PM
- Must be open to travel
