My client is a leading, high-profile Venture Capital firm that is dedicated to investing in exceptional teams that are building innovative companies in both Australia and overseas. The firm actively invests in high-growth software and AI-driven technology businesses that are solving critical problems within large markets. The firm invests in unique businesses with unique products that have genuine traction in their market and actively looks for opportunities where they can help entrepreneurs succeed by engaging their partner network of experts, operators, executives, and potential customers around the globe. With increasing investment activity both locally and overseas, the team are looking to hire an Investment Associate to join them in their Sydney office.
The Investment Associate plays a key role in the firm's investment process and will work across the entire investment lifecycle from sourcing and executing, through to supporting breakout portfolio companies.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
Deal Sourcing
- Build high-quality deal pipeline and developing strong internal and external relationships
- Qualify opportunities as a credible market representative for the firm
Market Research and Thesis Development
- Map emerging themes & research in relevant areas & markets, including competitor analysis
Investment Evaluation and Diligence
- Assist in driving diligence workstreams including product, market, financial, and tech
- Prepare investment memos and help present findings to the partnership
Portfolio Support
- Support founders in a range of value-creation activities and help track portfolio performance
Internal Projects and Firm Building
- Contribute to firm strategy, content and community programs
- Drive process improvement of various internal systems across the deal flow
Ideal Profile
- 2-4 years’ experience in one or more of: consulting, investment banking, high growth startups, private equity, or prior VC experience
- Experience in AI automation, data infrastructure, or technical product domains is valuable
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills; able to distil complexity into clear insights
- Ability to build financial models, perform due diligence and evaluate early product signals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Maturity in an ever-changing environment - show a level of comfort in making decisions with incomplete information
- Demonstrated passion and curiosity for AI and startups, whether through operating experience, investing, side projects, or ecosystem involvement
- Team player with humility; grounded, low-ego, and collaborative and a desire to work in a collaborative team with a flat structure
