About The Role

As the Deputy Principal – Junior Secondary, you will play a critical leadership role within the secondary campus, with responsibility for Years 7 and 8 and the strategic focus on the Reading Framework.

Working closely with the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead and embed a coherent, evidence-informed Reading Framework across the secondary campus, ensuring alignment between curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and intervention.

You will champion reading as a shared responsibility of all teachers and curriculum areas and support staff to develop the capability, confidence and consistency required to embed the whole school approach to reading.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead Junior Secondary improvement priorities, with a strong focus on belonging, engagement and successful transition into secondary schooling aligned with the Departments Brighter Future Strategy.
  • Drive the design, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the Whole Secondary Campus Approach to Reading, aligned to the College's explicit improvement agenda
  • Lead and support the implementation of aligned curriculum, pedagogical practices and assessment approaches that strengthen literacy and reading across learning areas
  • Oversee Junior Secondary data collection, analysis and response, including NAPLAN, PAT testing and internal monitoring, to inform targeted teaching and intervention
  • Build strong partnerships with feeder primary schools to strengthen continuity of learning and shared approaches to literacy and transition
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic planning, policy development and operational leadership as a member of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Deputise for the Principal when required and uphold the deputy principalship as a values-based, ethical and moral activity


What We Are Looking For

The successful applicant will be a future-focused, relational leader with a strong understanding of reading instruction, literacy development and whole-school improvement and the ability to lead change in a complex secondary context.

Experience in Junior Secondary leadership and a demonstrated commitment to improving reading outcomes for all students will be highly regarded.
