About Your Lab

The Mosquito Control Laboratory (MCL) manages state-of-the art pathogen and insect containment facilities with the capacity to undertake studies on all aspects of vector biology and disease transmission. We work on innovations in mosquito surveillance and control that might help interrupt parasite and pathogen transmission.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral Research Officer to join a multidisciplinary team developing a scalable, genomics-based surveillance system for emerging arboviruses in Australia. The project integrates innovative scented sugar bait technology for mosquitoes with next-generation sequencing (NGS) to enable rapid, community-driven detection of arboviral activity in the field.

The successful candidate will lead laboratory and field studies focusing on arboviral RNA detection and genomic sequencing, contributing to the development of novel sugar bait arboviral surveillance techniques.

About You

You will hold a PhD in Virology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Genomics, or a closely related discipline. You will have demonstrated experience in virus culture and maintenance, including the propagation of RNA viruses in mammalian and/or insect cell lines. You will bring proven expertise in molecular diagnostics, including RNA extraction, qRT-PCR, and next-generation sequencing workflows. A strong publication record is essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be able to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration

Salary range is $98,983 -$106,201 p.a. plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for a two (2) years with possibility of extension.
