We are seeking a dedicated Biosecurity Officer to join our team. In this role, you will:

Biosecurity Queensland plays a vital role in securing the state's agricultural prosperity and preserving and protecting the health of our environment and economy. We are dedicated to safeguarding both human and animal health by preventing and mitigating plant and animal pests and diseases. We work tirelessly to uphold a high level of animal welfare standards and maintain access to interstate markets, critical for Queensland's thriving primary industries. Biosecurity Queensland monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring they are used safely and in compliance with legislation. Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity (PBPI) - The PBPI Program has an integral role in delivering BQ's vision of leading the delivery of innovative, customer focused biosecurity services for Queensland. The Program's goal is to protect Queensland's agricultural industries, environment and communities from plant pests and diseases, and facilitate trade in high quality, safe agricultural products.

Our Biosecurity Officers play a key role in protecting Queensland's agricultural industries and environment. In this role, you will conduct field-based activities to monitor and manage biosecurity risks, enforce compliance with legislation, and support trade facilitation. Working with stakeholders, you will provide advice and promote responsible practices, while also contributing to emergency response efforts and professional development opportunities.

Key Activities Include

  • Conducting activities to deliver the Operational work plan such as surveillance, inspections, and audits to detect and manage biosecurity risks, including plant pests, diseases, and chemical misuse.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to provide technical advice, promote compliance, and facilitate trade through inspections and certification schemes.
  • Oversee the administration and enforcement of legislation such as the Biosecurity Act 2014, Chemical Usage (Agricultural and Veterinary) Control Act 1988, Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Act 1966 and relevant sections of the Drugs Misuse Act 1981
  • Participating in emergency responses, including fieldwork in remote areas, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
