Health And Safety Advisor

Queensland Police Service
Townsville Full-day Full-time

New year, new role? Where better to practise health and safety than in Queensland’s largest public safety agency.

Join us at our foundation safety level and work with management, operational and support personnel (including volunteers) in a regional location.

Apply your WHS skills and experience to our diverse work and workplaces and enjoy a career which can be both challenging and deeply rewarding.

You don't need to have previously worked in a frontline or public safety agency, but you do need to have the character and initiative to quickly grasp the dynamic operating environment, to think on your feet while acting in a considered principled way, and to work exceptionally well in multidisciplinary and cross functional teams.

Your Key Accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Coordinate a broad range of health and safety activities, including consultative processes and networks, workplace inspections, organisational audits and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop and implement local strategies, systems and procedures in support of strategic QPS health and safety policies and initiatives
  • Coordinate the identification and assessment of workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and develop control strategies to address potential hazards to the health and safety of members
  • Facilitate and/or conduct incident and accident investigations and investigation management
  • Prepare submissions, reports, briefings and other relevant documentation relating to health and safety issues and initiatives
  • Provide advice and support to subordinate staff, managers and workers on all aspects of health and safety, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Regulation 2011 and other relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Standards
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver health and safety training programs and information products
  • Coordinate the collection, recording and analysis of health and safety data to produce recommendations and reports to management

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

  • As above

The QPS Safety Strategy Division will be restructured in 2026. Safety functions will merge with those including for employee health and wellbeing, injury management and HR. While organisational structures and reporting lines will be impacted, the safety role will remain essentially the same though with increased focus on local service delivery, partnering with other local corporate functions, and supporting local safety management decision making.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
