Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is seeking an accomplished Director, Media and Communications to lead district-wide communications, media engagement and stakeholder strategies that build community trust, enhance reputation and support the delivery of high-quality healthcare.
This leadership role offers the opportunity to influence organisational priorities, manage complex communications portfolios, and lead a commuications team delivering impactful outcomes across a large and diverse health network.
About The Role
You will provide strategic leadership across all media and communications functions, ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging aligned with WSLHD’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Developing and implementing the District’s communications strategy
- Providing strategic media, reputation and issues management advice to the Chief Executive and Executive team
- Leading major campaigns, projects and organisational communications initiatives
- Identifying and managing media risks and opportunities
- Building strong partnerships with facilities, services, government, media and community stakeholders
- Leading and developing a high-performing communications team and managing the budget
- Overseeing district-wide events, forums and engagement activities
- Driving innovation across communication channels and emerging platforms
- Lead communications across a large, complex and high-profile organisation
- Shape reputation and engagement in a fast-growing community
- Work with passionate healthcare professionals making real impact
- Be based in the vibrant Westmead Health Precinct

You are an experienced and strategic, confident communications leader who thrives in complex environments.
You Will Have
- Senior experience in media, communications, public relations, journalism or related fields
- Proven success delivering large-scale communication strategies and campaigns
- Strong people leadership capability and experience developing teams
- Expertise in media relations, issues management and stakeholder engagement
- Exceptional written, verbal and influencing skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in high-pressure environments
- Experience in government, health or public sector organisations (highly regarded)
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience) are essential.
