Job Overview
As part of the Synthetic Biology team, you will work closely with our metabolic engineers to help engineer microbial strains to increase protein titre, strain growth, industrial robustness and other strain features. This is a fantastic opportunity to utilize design-build-test-learn synthetic biology workflows using the latest engineering techniques and All G’s high-throughput biofoundry.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Help design and build new expression vectors and transform a range of bacteria, yeast, and fungal species.
- Grow microbial cultures for protein production.
- Purify and analyse recombinant proteins using a suite of techniques.
- Maintain microbiology and analytical equipment as well as laboratory consumables.
- Support laboratory bookkeeping, SOP writing, and maintenance of strain libraries and reagent stocks.
- Collaborate with the wider R&D team as well as work autonomously.
- Collect research data, enter/store it in appropriate statistical software, and prepare reports; conduct literature searches as needed.
- Undertake research procedures according to ethics protocols and support preparation of ethics applications.
- Perform ad-hoc projects and other activities as required.
About you (including essential education & skills)
- Tertiary qualifications in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or a related field.
- Experience with microbial culture, cloning and recombinant protein expression, particularly yeast.
- Competency in analytical methods such as SDS-PAGE, HPLC and spectrophotometry.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent record keeping.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.
- Experience using electronic laboratory notebooks such as Benchling is highly desirable.
- Must have valid Australian working rights. No visa sponsorship or relocation provided.
