FLINDERS UNIVERSITY
Adelaide Full-day Full-time

Description:

Since 1966, Flinders University has been at the forefront of innovation in Australian higher education, shaping the future through bold ideas, pioneering research, and transformative learning experiences. With campuses in Adelaide, rural South Australia, and the Northern Territory, the University is dedicated to advancing knowledge and making a meaningful impact—locally, nationally, and globally.

Flinders University is recognised for its commitment to innovation, excellence, and being student-centred. The College of Medicine and Public Health operates across a multi-site footprint in South Australia and the Northern Territory, positioning itself as a nationally and internationally recognised leader in clinical sciences, medical education and public health.

Flinders University invites applications for an exceptional opportunity to fulfil the role of Dean of Medicine. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of medical education and research at one of Australia's most innovative universities, leading the prestigious Doctor of Medicine (MD) program and driving excellence across clinical sciences.

As Dean of Medicine, you will provide strategic academic leadership in teaching, research and community engagement within the Discipline of Clinical Sciences. Serving as both the Academic Leader of the MD Program and lead for the clinical discipline, you will be instrumental in strengthening and evolving medical education across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Key responsibilities include leading the planning, implementation, and continuous development of the MD Program aligned with the Australian Medical Council (AMC) accreditation standards. The Dean will have oversight of the education delivery using contemporary pedagogy across multiple campuses and locations, and champion research excellence while actively supporting Early and Mid-Career Researchers. You will serve as the University's principal representative to the medical profession and healthcare sector, fostering relationships with Local Health Networks, the Australian Medical Council, and industry partners. The role includes mentoring future leaders and junior academic colleagues in Clinical Sciences and shaping and implementing the College's strategic vision as a member of the College executive, supported as part of a team of Deans.

The successful candidate will possess a PhD or equivalent qualification, plus specialist medical qualification with AHPRA registration (or eligibility), along with a distinguished track record of teaching excellence in medical education at tertiary level, including leadership roles. You will bring significant experience in curriculum development, teaching methodology, and accreditation activities, as well as an outstanding record of developing strategic alliances and partnerships delivering successful educational and research outcomes.

This role offers the unique opportunity to shape the College's strategic direction as an integral member of the College Executive Team, where you will be supported to collaborate closely with fellow Deans and a dynamic community of professionals, academics, and researchers.

Essential qualities include a proven ability to lead complex cultural and academic change, excellence in communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement, and significant contribution to the discipline and profession at local, national, and international levels.

Highly regarded candidates will also bring a distinguished international reputation in research, evidenced by sustained high-quality publications and competitive external grants, along with excellence in research supervision.

At Flinders we embrace and celebrate diversity and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people of all ages, ethnicities, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
