ROLE PURPOSE
The graphic designer’s purpose is to collaborate with the Business Development Manager to further business development and communication needs of the practice through the execution of excellently designed graphic design deliverables in various formats as required.
ROLE OVERVIEW
You will be responsible for the design, production and delivery of deliverables across digital and print media for a range of purposes from business development through to external marketing.
As a graphic designer you are critical in the final steps of our process, designing and packaging the architectural work of our designers into a compelling document that extends our value of design excellence through to the final physical document presented to our clients. You will translate dense concepts into clear pieces of visual communication that are targeted at a broad audience.
You will collaborate with all letterhead, communications/marketing departments and the Business Development Manager who will offer strategic direction to help guide you through your work, targeting your efforts according to business needs. One month you may be focused on designing tender document and client documents while the next you may be designing marketing materials for our social media.
This role is integral to various aspects of the business and will require collaboration with the broader architectural team.
This is a dynamic and collaborative role that requires strong discipline and time management skills to manage workload under tight deadlines as well as interpersonal skills to be able to collaborate with colleagues at various levels and departments with ease and independence.
MAJOR TASKS
- Designing tender submission documents.
- Creating and updating business development graphic systems such as document templates in InDesign: Project sheets, capability statements and presentations, etc.
- Designing to printing specifications and liaising with printer (regarding stock, finishes and bindings) when physical documents are needed.
- Provide graphic design advice and present concepts in response to internal briefs as needed.
- Support architectural teams on the design production of project-related presentations, reports, templates, from time to time as needed.
- Support business development and marketing initiatives through the design and production of promotional material, artwork, booklets, banners, etc for events organised by Grimshaw. Ensure the practice has an up-to-date portfolio of work by maintaining currency of project pages and developing new project pages as directed.
- Maintain the digital image library in close collaboration with Business Development and Comms.
- Support Comms in supplying appropriate images and graphics for the practice website, including development of webpages and content as necessary.
- Design support for our online presence and social media campaigns.
- Provide technical advice and assistance in the use of company standard design files and brand guidelines.
- Contribute to the delivery of an efficient and effective service by keeping up-to-date with technical developments and maintaining a working knowledge of new products and design techniques.
- Participate in regular discussions with the wider team to share work, innovate, organise workflow and produce appropriate design solutions.
- Help maintain files: Versions, formats and project names within established framework.
- Work closely with the Partners and Business Development Manager to develop and design proposals, concepts and final artwork.
- Liaising effectively with suppliers and other team members to meet deadlines.
- Design presentations in both InDesign and PowerPoint.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Curious and proactive
- Eager to learn broader management and leadership skills to advance in their career
- Deep interest in graphic design and architecture
- Strong graphic design portfolio demonstrating strong skills in layout design and type-setting
- Motion design experience preferred but not required
- 2-5 years of experience as a graphic designer or a closely related role
- Knowledge of graphic design best practices
- Excellent skills in Adobe InDesign
- Strong skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop
- Skills in Adobe After Effects and motion graphics
- Open to developing an understanding of the market and developing commercial acumen
- Willingness and drive for continuous improvement of current skills and learning new skills

- Able to independently coordinate and execute on projects with supervision of BD Manager
- Able to manage their time well within tight deadlines and ability to realistically manage their workloads during busy times without over-committing
