Celebrating 40 years, the beloved Magpies Sporting Club, is seeking a passionate and experienced FC to take the helm of the Club’s Financial Department and be a significant participant in the club’s executive management team. The Club has embarked on a $30 million multistage redevelopment, establishing Magpies as one of the largest and successful sporting Clubs in Queensland.
This modern Club, located at the heart of Mackay’s sporting and community life, offers a diverse range of food and beverage outlets, including the region’s largest gaming lounge and a thriving events department. The Club maintains strong connections with the local community and supports nine affiliated sporting clubs through the provision of facilities, community grants, sporting amenities and individual sponsorships. The club employs 130 personnel and has a membership of 20,000, the club’s unwavering commitment to community engagement is reflected in the Club’s consistently strong financial performance.
This leadership role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a multitude of exciting initiatives, including working alongside the General Manager to oversee a significant $30 million renovation project. The renovation plan itself encompasses a comprehensive refresh of the venue for both customers and staff.
Managing the day-to-day operations of the club’s finance department, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate through previous experience:
- Leadership, working collaboratively with a busy management team in a hospitality environment.
- A commitment to compliance including AML/CTF, liquor and gaming.
- Capacity for strategic thinking and contributing to the strategic and operational plans.
- A proven track record to grow revenues in all areas, particularly driving gaming revenue.
- A passion for driving exceptional customer service with customers and staff.
- Liaising with and supporting an experience stable board.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous financial controller experience (club or the hospitality industry knowledge is highly desirable).
- Comprehensive understanding of XERO & associated accounting software tools is essential.
- A high understanding of awards and advanced knowledge of payroll systems, with the ability to support and relieve the payroll officer when on leave.
- Strong financial management expertise including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial reporting.
- Ability to prepare monthly management reports and present financial information clearly to the Board and Executive team monthly and annually.
- Possess a high level of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail with strong internal control and audit processes.
- Tertiary qualifications are mandatory for this role.
