The Creative Strategist role plays a pivotal part in this future— transforming and leading the thinking that sits at the heart of MECCA’s biggest, most ambitious ideas, ensuring our creative work is grounded in research, insight, future thinking and a deep understanding of customers, culture, and the business. Sitting within the newly formed Creative Direction team and reporting to the Head of Creative Strategy, this role plays a critical part in early-stage ideation.
You’ll help define the problem worth solving, identify the opportunity worth pursuing, and set the strategic lens that guides creative development. Working closely with the Creative Lead, Head of Creative, the Creative Strategist connects brand, category, and trade, translating business ambition into clear, inspiring creative direction. This is a role for someone who likes being inside ideas, pressure-testing them, and helping them land with purpose and intent across MECCA’s channels.
What You’ll Do
Build the strategic backbone
- Researching the future of beauty, brand and retail- taking observations from across the world and approaching creative challenges with eyes wide open
- Developing insight-led creative strategies that are grounded in cultural and customer understanding
- Writing clear, inspiring creative briefs that articulate the objective, audience and opportunity- great writing skills are a must!
- Translate business goals and brand strategy into focused creative direction
- Spot cultural trends, tensions and truths that can spark distinctive ideas
- Balance long-term brand building with short-term campaign impact
- Partner closely with the Heads of Creative Direction and Creative Leads from the earliest stages of ideation
- Help define the strategic role of campaigns and brand moments within the broader MECCA ecosystem
- Pressure-test ideas to ensure they’re clear, relevant and effective
- Support ideas as they evolve, from first thought to refined execution
- Bring structure to complex or ambiguous briefs
- Help teams focus on what really matters (strategically and creatively)
- Ensure strategic intent stays intact as ideas move through development
- Work closely with Marketing, Brand, Insights and Commercial teams to align inputs and priorities
- Partner with Design, Content and delivery teams so the strategy is understood and upheld
- Be a trusted strategic voice for creative and cross-functional stakeholders
- Advocate for insight-led, idea-first thinking
- Encourage curiosity, learning and healthy debate
- Help build strong, collaborative ways of working between strategy and creative
- Experience in creative strategy, brand strategy or planning (agency or in-house)
- Writing creative briefs and supporting campaign or brand work
- Working closely with creatives, designers and storytellers
- Sharp strategic and analytical thinking
- The ability to distil complexity into clear, inspiring insight
- A strong understanding of culture, consumer behaviour and brands
- Clear communication and the confidence to influence ideas
- Curious, thoughtful and collaborative
- Comfortable with ambiguity — you help shape the direction
- Confident contributing to creative conversations
- Motivated by building strong ideas, not just frameworks
