ABOUT US

Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

At its core NPY Women’s Council is about family and community – walytja. Our purpose is to work with women, children and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara region in central Australia. Our role is to work side by side and help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choice

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Child and Family Wellbeing Service is made up of three programs; Child Nutrition, Intensive Family Support and Child Advocacy.

The Child Nutrition Program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-5 years residing in NPY member communities. This is achieved through individual family support and case management for children who are growth faltering or at risk of growth faltering; child nutrition education and promotion through community based workshops; support to local communities to increase their capacity to develop and implement community based nutrition programs and strategies; and locally developed and produced resources.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In the role of a Child Nutrition Development Officer, you will work collaboratively with the Child Nutrition Program (CNP) team to support families with children aged 0-5 years, especially those experiencing growth faltering and child protection issues.

This position requires working in remote communities for periods of time and overnight absences typically for the working week. The accommodation is often shared with other staff.

The position reports to the Team Leader – Child Nutrition Program

ABOUT YOU

This rewarding role could suit a nutrition or health sciences professional wanting to gain invaluable experience, or professionals in other disciplines with transferrable skills looking for a change (e.g. teachers, nurses, health care workers etc.). Experience working with remote Indigenous communities or vulnerable minority groups will be highly regarded.

We are looking for someone who is a team player, resilient and passionate about working alongside Anangu.

This is a unique chance to work for an organisation that takes a grassroots approach to community development. You will live, work and build lasting relationships within a local community and get to experience an amazing landscape and part of the world. This is an extraordinary opportunity to learn about yourself, another culture and grow professionally at the same time.

You will work within a supportive, trauma informed framework and we provide a comprehensive orientation program. You will receive best practice supervision and professional development that includes vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel drive training. We also provide critical incident de-briefing and a range of counselling services to support you.

In addition to this we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, salary packaging benefits, 25 days of annual leave, 3 days of additional leave, 15 days of personal leave (to care for you and your family), and a retention bonus.
