About the team
Our Information Access team is a dynamic group of five professionals dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability. The team includes a Team Leader, two Right to Information Advisers, an Information Access Officer, and a Business Support Officer. Together, they manage approximately 400 Right to Information applications and 2,000 other access requests annually, including subpoenas and third-party disclosures. The team plays a vital role in ensuring timely and lawful access to information for both the City and the public.
About your new role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Right to Information Adviser to manage Right to Information (RTI) applications from receipt through to resolution, in line with relevant legislation. This role plays a critical part in ensuring transparency and accountability by supporting public access to government-held information while upholding privacy and confidentiality obligations.
- Exercise independent decision-making for RTI applications in accordance with legislative requirements and statutory timeframes.
- Research, interpret, and apply a variety of legislative instruments to assess and respond to information access requests.
- Liaise with members of the public and applicants to guide them through the RTI process and negotiate the scope of requests where needed.
- Support and educate internal stakeholders on RTI obligations, processes, and best practices.
- Assist in the collection and maintenance of data and documentation to facilitate the administrative release of information when appropriate.
- Identify and implement innovative practices and procedural improvements to enhance the efficiency of the Information Access team.
- Effectively manage competing priorities and ensure timely handling of RTI applications.
- Promote and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
We're looking for people who have:
- You are a collaborative and analytical professional with a strong understanding of information access laws and processes.
- You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interpret complex legislation and apply it with sound judgement.
- Experience working in local government, right to information, or administrative law environments.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation.
- Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with enterprise ICT systems including Microsoft 365, SAP, Objective, and LGP Pathway.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
