The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland. Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management.

Derbarl Kids are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Speech Pathologist to deliver culturally safe, high-quality speech pathology services for Aboriginal children and young people (aged 0–18 years) and their families across Perth.

This is an incredible opportunity to join a well-established multidisciplinary team committed to improving developmental outcomes and empowering families through holistic, culturally responsive care. This will be a Part-time Maximum term contract which expires 12 months from the start date.

About the Role

As a Speech Pathologist, you will play a vital role in case management & delivering specialised assessment, diagnosis and intervention services to children experiencing speech and communication difficulties, with a focus on:

• Autism

• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

• Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

This role is offering up to 0.9 FTE which is a 9-day fortnight !

You will be working on a team with Paediatricians, GPs, Clinic Case Officers, Aboriginal Disability Liaison Officers and other Allied Health to ensure that services are effective, culturally appropriate, and family centred.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide speech and language assessments for Aboriginal children and young people, using culturally appropriate methods.

• Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team on diagnostic assessments including FASD & Autism.

• Deliver evidence-based, culturally appropriate therapy and interventions.

• Promote holistic care through collaboration with multidisciplinary team members, families, external agencies & community stakeholders.

• Engage and empower families through education, guidance, and culturally relevant resources.

• Lead quality improvement, program development and evaluation initiatives.

• Ensure a safe work environment aligned with Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.

• Maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in the field of Paediatric Speech Pathology with a focus on emerging research and best practices.

• Participate in and contribute to professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars and conferences.

Essential Qualifications:

• Degree in Speech Pathology from a recognised institution

• Current registration with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)

Experience and Skills:

• Minimum 5 years' experience in paediatric speech pathology, especially with FASD, Autism and ADHD

• Experience supervising and mentoring staff

• Strong clinical expertise in assessment and management of complex paediatric communication disorders

• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal children, families, and communities

• Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills whilst also being able to work autonomously

Other Requirements:

• Working with Children Check

• National Police Clearance

• Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel

• Commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice
