Established more than 50 years ago, ACS is a member-led not-for-profit organisation committed to advancing Australia's technology sector. Our mission is to power Australia's technological brilliance, supporting the delivery of government services, enhancing education, and driving innovation and productivity across businesses.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Risk Governance Lead to join our Governance, Legal, Risk & Quality (GLRQ) team on a twelve-month fixed term, part-time basis (3–4 days per week). In this high-impact role, you will lead the enterprise risk governance function and play a critical part in embedding risk thinking into our organisational strategy and operations.
This is a hands-on role, where you will operate independently as the organisation’s risk lead, while being supported by the broader GLRQ team. You’ll be responsible for both strategic oversight and practical delivery of risk governance activities.
Reporting to the Corporate Secretary & Head of Legal and working closely with executive stakeholders, you will design, implement, and oversee ACS’s risk governance framework. You’ll serve as the key advisor on risk matters, ensuring alignment with governance expectations, regulatory compliance, and organisational objectives.
A key focus of the role will be embedding a consistent and practical risk culture across the ACS Group, supporting informed decision-making at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the enterprise risk function as a hands-on sole risk practitioner
- Own and maintain the risk management framework, ensuring it’s fit-for-purpose
- Work directly with the CEO, Executive, and senior leaders to identify and manage risks
- Embed risk into strategy, planning, and delivery across all areas of the business
- Promote a healthy risk culture that encourages open discussion and informed decision-making
- Ensure maintenance (and continued improvement) of the risk framework including all artifacts, process and reporting to Board and ELT
- Deliver practical tools, guidance and coaching to teams to build capability and confidence
- Conduct deep dives into risk areas as required, recommending mitigation strategies
- Ensure alignment with ISO 31000 or equivalent frameworks and relevant obligations
About You
- 8+ years’ experience in risk, governance, or audit leadership roles
- Proven ability to operate autonomously in a hands-on, standalone capacity
- Strong understanding of risk frameworks (e.g., ISO 31000, COSO)
- Ability to work closely with executive leaders and boards
- Practical mindset with strong communication and influencing skills
- Comfortable leading risk strategy while rolling up your sleeves to deliver day-to-day tasks
- Experience in not-for-profit, membership, or government sectors a plus
- Proven ability to present clear, concise and insightful risk reports to the Board and ELT;
- Skilled in translating complex risks into actionable insights;
- Experienced developing dashboards and leveraging technology to enhance risk management (including data driven risk analysis) for dynamic reporting
