Wood is recruiting a HSE Manager, to join its Operations business supporting our clientele in the Queensland. Based in Brisbane CBD, this is a permanent role and is available as a full- basis.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP HSEQ for APAC, you will provide leadership and direction for the HSE department to hire and train qualified expertise into the department, to engage personnel on projects and improve department work processes and procedures. You will also ensure compliance with applicable HSE Management System, Customer Safety Policies, and governmental regulations by supervising the development of procedures and safety plans and ensuring proper execution.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Accountability for the management of HSE for a major client in Queensland over various sites.
  • Providing appropriate HSE leadership including compliance with travel, site safety requirements
  • Developing and maintaining productive, collaborative relationships of trust within and across projects and region
  • Being an influential team member who provides positive leadership to influence team culture and the working environment
  • Coaching and mentoring the workforce, specifically around safe and behaviours
  • Focussing on delivery elements and implementation of HSE policies and practices
  • Monitoring integration of health and safety programmes including hazard and risk identification, incident reporting and investigation, employee health and well-being, environmental hygiene and organisational transformation
  • Developing and directing HSE programs and training initiatives to continuously improve the safety culture of all employees working within the assignment
  • Leading Behavioural Change Management strategy implementation and delivering change across the assignment
  • Recording, reporting and analysing HSE performance metrics including both leading and lagging indicators

Expected:

Ideally you will have proven experience working in a similar HSE Manager / HSE Lead role, supported by 6 years + of relevant experience, predominantly within the energy industry. You will be suitably qualified from a recognised institution, in either one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HSE / WHS / OHS (preferred)
  • Australian Diploma or, NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)

You must be able to work lawfully in Australia and hold full working rights for this location. If you have a visa application in progress, you are also encouraged to apply

In addition, you will:

  • Be a leader of people with several years of supervisory experience, capable of engendering an entrepreneurial spirit of cooperation and energising diverse teams towards optimal performance
  • Be an articulate communicator (both written and verbal) including well-developed technical report writing and professional presentation skills.
  • Be a proficient user of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, TEAMS)
  • Have a “solutions mindset” with the ability to work under pressure, with an ability to consistently deliver within complex environment
  • Have an excellent knowledge of HSE regulations, standards and legal requirements, along with internal & external audits and third-party certification audits practices
  • Have proven experience in the delivery of HSE programs that positively and pragmatically influence safety culture
  • Be customer focused with an ability to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with proven experience coaching / challenging leadership and their teams to adopt best practice, with safety at the heart of everything we do as #teamwood

Desirable:

Relevant experience within the Energy industries across both white and blue-collar sectors would be advantageous with exposure to Major Hazard Facilities.
