We have an exciting career opportunity working within our Waste and Sustainability services as a permanent full-time Waste and Sustainability Manager.

Reporting to the Director Infrastructure & Environment, this role exists to manage Council’s waste services to ensure implementation and delivery of services in line with Council’s Operational Plan performance indicators, Council’s Waste Management Strategy, regulatory and contractual compliance and a high level of service delivery to Council and the community.

Job Description

To experience success in this role, you will need to manage and coordinate Council’s Waste Management operations to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of waste services. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, have demonstrated knowledge of regulatory and contractual compliance and drive change management initiatives to introduce and sustain new processes that contribute to the growth and durability of the operations.

We are seeking a highly motivated person with the ability to coach and lead a team and meet challenges head on. The successful candidate will bring substantial experience in waste management within an environmentally sensitive landscape. A focus on leading a sustainable Broken Hill will also be a key driver for the successful candidate.

Skills required for this senior role include:

  • An understanding of project management and business planning.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to train, coach and develop staff.
  • Highly effective planning, reporting and prioritising skills.
  • Results driven with the ability to influence and manage a range of internal relationships.
  • Knowledge and understanding of project budget management, project reporting, project finalisation, contract administration and tendering.
  • Ability to identify and drive continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.
  • Highly developed skills in general business, management, including finance and computer literacy.
