Your Opportunity

As a member of the North Executive Team, you will be a highly respected and innovative educational leader with significant experience in the tertiary and Vocational Education and Training (VET) sectors. You will drive, shape and influence North’s strategic direction through your leadership of the execution of marketing and commercial strategies and the enhancement of the client services function, allowing the organisation to deliver on its vision and objectives.

Through your involvement as a key member of the North Executive Team, you will also contribute to the achievement of the broader TAFE Queensland vision and ensure the organisation is a market leader in the provision of high quality education and training in Queensland.

This position reports to the General Manager - TAFE Queensland North region

This is a Temporary, Full-Time opportunity, for 12 months unless otherwise determined.

The position will be based primarily at Cairns however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

The Total Remuneration Package (TRP) for this role is to be negotiated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert and strategic advice, information and guidance to the North Executive Team with regard to client services and commercial operations.
  • Engage with TAFE Queensland on issues regarding Client Services, Marketing, Business Development and Contract Management activities as well as provide expert advice and support to stakeholders across the network to achieve desired outcomes
  • Provide effective Region representation in high level negotiations and liaison with external organisations, government departments and bodies whilst maintaining positive working relationships and partnerships with clients and stakeholders on a range of complex performance related matters.
  • Lead the design and implementation of regional client and commercial service improvements and the associated modifications to process and systems within negotiated time and cost parameters in alignment with TAFE Queensland strategic direction.
  • Ensure appropriate systems and processes are implemented to support teaching and learning in accordance with relevant legislation, regulation and TQ policies.
  • Provide expert advice to the regions senior managers on compliance monitoring and make recommendations on appropriate improvement strategies
  • Provide commercial leadership and influence within both the internal and external environment.
  • Ensure commercial success through managing efficiency and effectiveness of financial and non-financial performance targets.
  • Lead an environment and culture that values performance, teaching excellence, program innovation and responsiveness in the delivery of high-quality educational support services.
  • Contribute to the success of cultural change within the organisation through promoting and modelling the established TAFE Queensland values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative and Safety First as well as the North Region agreed behaviours framework.


How You Will Be Assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  • High level knowledge of the tertiary and VET sectors, particularly as it relates to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and demonstrated success in managing quality compliance within a large and complex educational organisation.
  • Superior negotiation, consultative and interpersonal skills as evidenced by the proven ability to influence strategically at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated capacity to think conceptually, innovate and analyse complex situations and lead the development and delivery of commercial strategies and services which challenge traditional approaches and create competitive advantage in the commercial VET marketplace.
  • High level leadership, planning, project management and team management skills and the ability to set a clear vision and direction in times of change and uncertainty.
  • Leads cultural change and shapes an organisation to achieve strategic goals with integrity
