The E-commerce Strategist at DotCollective acts as the bridge between marketing , e-commerce technology , customer experience , and business strategy .They drive measurable growth for our clients across traffic, conversion, retention, and customer lifetime value by developing insight-led strategies that align brand, experience, and commercial goals.
This role elevates clients beyond "just a website build" by turning DotCollective's design, UX, development and optimisation capabilities into long-term digital outcomes - supporting our ethos of openness, collaboration, no hierarchy, and shared ownership .
Requirements
Core Responsibilities
E-commerce Strategy & Roadmapping
- Develop short and long-term commerce strategies aligned to client goals, budgets, and maturity
- Build quarterly and annual roadmaps grounded in data, customer behaviour, and commercial priorities
- Identify growth opportunities across acquisition, onsite experience, conversion, retention, and loyalty
- Benchmark performance using Shopify, GA, industry standards, and market trends
- Analyse customer behaviour, funnel performance, product performance, merchandising, and attribution
- Diagnose issues such as high bounce, drop-offs, search inefficiencies, or cart abandonment
- Create insight decks, recommendations and prioritised action lists for clients and internal teams
- Pull, cleanse and analyse data from a variety of different sources
- Lead experimentation through A/B testing frameworks and ongoing optimisation loops
- Manage qualitative and quantitative research projects on an ad hoc basis as required
- Provide high-level SEO oversight during website and platform migrations to protect organic performance and search equity
- Lead SEO migration planning, including:
- URL and information architecture reviews
- Redirect strategy and mapping (old → new)
- Content and metadata alignment during replatforming
- Ensure Shopify themes, templates, and CMS structures support core technical SEO fundamentals (crawlability, performance, indexing, schema readiness)
- Conduct post-launch SEO health checks and reporting, identifying:
- Organic traffic movement
- Indexing and crawl issues
- Redirect integrity and errors
- Structural or performance-related risks
- Produce clear migration and post-launch reports for clients and internal teams, outlining impacts, risks, and recommended next steps
- Improve onsite customer journeys across the full funnel (homepage → PLP → PDP → cart → checkout)
- Collaborate with UX designers to uplift navigation, product discovery, content hierarchy and user flows
- Develop hypotheses for testing and conversion opportunities informed by heatmaps, session recordings and analytics
- Champion frictionless, accessible, and brand-aligned experiences at every touchpoint
- Recommend the right Shopify apps, tools, and integrations to support scalability and operational efficiency
- Work closely with developers and Delivery Leads to ensure features align with strategy and business outcomes
- Provide strategic input on CMS structure, content models, tagging, merchandising and automation workflows
- Stay across Shopify updates, partner ecosystem innovations, and emerging ecommerce capabilities
- Work hand-in-hand with designers, developers and delivery leads to drive strategy through execution
- Facilitate discovery workshops (QBRs, roadmapping) that unlock clarity and alignment
- Present insights and strategy recommendations to stakeholders with confidence and clarity
- Assist with productising key service offerings
- Build strong, trusted relationships with clients through transparency, guidance, and proactive leadership
Strategic & Analytical
- Strong ability to interpret data and translate insight into strategy
- Ability to identify patterns, commercial opportunities, and customer pain points
- Deep understanding of Shopify, Shopify Plus features, apps, checkout extensibility
- Knowledge of merchandising, product taxonomy, fulfilment logic, and e-commerce operations
- SEO (technical + content), SEM, paid social, email, retention, CRO
- Understanding of attribution, PPC fundamentals, and omnichannel strategies
- User-centric thinker with ability to simplify complexity
- Familiar with UX flows, IA, wireframes and experimentation
- Shopify Admin + Analytics
- Google Analytics 4
- Search Console, Screaming Frog, SEO tools
- Klaviyo or other ESPs
- Heatmap/session tools (Hotjar, Clarity)
- A/B testing platforms
- Strong presenter, facilitator, and storyteller
