The Capability branch is in the State Schools Strategy Division. The Capability branch is committed to investing in professional expertise for a confident and professional workforce to deliver what matters for every student. A key function of the Capability branch is the Education Futures Institute (EFI) that delivers high-quality, targeted and evidence-informed capability development for a multi-disciplinary workforce.
The role of Principal Education Officer is offered on a full-time temporary basis, until 26 June 2026, unless otherwise determined.
About The Role
As a Principal Education Officer, you will play an important role in leading and coordinating the delivery of high-quality professional learning at Education Futures Institute - Capability Branch.
Key Functions Of This Role Include
- Consultation, co-design and facilitation of cohesive approaches to capability development for educational leaders aligned with professional standards and organisational priorities
- Leading implementation of research-based quality-assured educational leadership development initiatives
- Supporting engagement, partnerships and collaboration with school, regional and system leaders, key internal and external partners and stakeholders
- Contributing to educational leadership across a variety of sectors including primary, secondary, special, outdoor and environment education centres and alternate educational settings.
The Ideal Applicants Are Individuals Who Demonstrate
- An understand of the vision and strategic directions of the Department of Education
- A track record of developing leadership capability opportunities through enhanced professional knowledge, practice and engagement
- Application of knowledge of the Departments School performance planning, monitoring, reviewing and reporting and experience in contributing to school improvement
- Understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for teachers and principals as a framework to support school leadership professional learning.

- Attach a written statement (2-page maximum) using minimum 10pt font outlining your suitability for the role in response to the attached role description and within the context of the role as described above.
