Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) is the Queensland Government's dedicated global business agency, connecting Queensland businesses to international opportunities and attracting high-value investment that strengthens the state's economy. With one of Australia's largest international networks and a strong regional footprint, TIQ plays a key role in delivering the Queensland Trade and Investment Strategy 2022–2032.

The Trade Services Northern team operates across regional centres from Gladstone to Cairns, working closely with regional stakeholders. TIQ's Global Investment Attraction team, sector specialists and international offices position North Queensland as an investment destination of choice.

About The Role

The Principal Trade and Investment Officer plays a critical role in identifying, developing and facilitating regional investment opportunities that support economic growth, diversification and job creation. Reporting to the Manager Trade Services North, the role leads engagement across priority sectors including energy, resources, agriculture, advanced manufacturing and critical minerals.

You will build and maintain strong regional and international networks, coordinate investor engagement, high-value projects, and provide clear, evidence-based advice to support decision-making. TIQ works closely with other levels of government, and this role has no direct reports but works collaboratively across TIQ teams and with other levels of government.

Skills & Experience

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Proven ability to identify, assess and progress regional investment opportunities through strong stakeholder engagement and sound analysis.
  • Experience in investment attraction, regional development or a related commercial/government environment, with an understanding of North Queensland's economic landscape.
  • High-level communication, negotiation and influencing skills, including the ability to represent TIQ professionally with government, industry and international stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams, including with global and sector specialists, to deliver integrated investment facilitation outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capability to manage complexity and progress commercial and policy issues.
  • Ability to prepare high-quality briefs, reports and presentations that clearly communicate project value and investment potential.
  • Commitment to working with integrity, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • There are no mandatory qualifications; however, experience and/or qualifications in business, economics, regional development or investment attraction will be favourably regarded.
