The Principal Policy Officer, Student Wellbeing leads the development of strategic policies that support student wellbeing across the education system, providing high-level advice and working collaboratively to improve outcomes for students.

The Student Wellbeing Team Are Seeking a Dynamic Team Member To Assist With The Management Of a Range Of Projects And Initiatives Across The Student Wellbeing Portfolio, Including

  • Wellbeing Workforce; Share the Dignity in Queensland Schools
  • GPs in State Schools Program
  • Health Practitioners in Primary Schools Program
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Inclusion
  • LGBTIQ+ Student Inclusion.


As Principal Policy Officer, Student Wellbeing, You Will

  • Assist with the review and update of key student wellbeing procedures and policies.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support the provision of expert advice and the development of key student wellbeing projects and initiatives.
  • Assist in organising internal and external consultation, including the development of plans, surveys, support materials and reports.
  • Assist with the development of communication plans and prepare a range of stakeholder communication including, presentations, newsletters and emails.
  • Draft and edit briefing materials, cabinet submissions, responses to ministerial or departmental correspondence, policy or research papers.
  • Assist with procurement processes and contract management to secure products and services to support students'.
  • Collect, manage, and report on datasets across multiple platforms to support evaluation and review of projects.
  • Assist with budget processes, including facilitation of appropriation payments and paying invoices.


About You

The ideal applicant will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting management of projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience assisting with the review/evaluation of policies, procedures and projects.
  • Proven ability to achieve high levels of productivity autonomously, in complex, high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to provide high-level advice and support to senior officers of the department and schools regarding the development of programs and initiatives to support student wellbeing.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, critical analysis and ability to apply whole-of-government perspectives.
  • Ability to deliver results within tight timeframes with high levels of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, issues impacting student mental health and wellbeing.
