The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning is seeking two Principal Policy Officers to join the Strategic Policy and Research team within the State Development division. These temporary positions present an opportunity to use your skills to undertake high quality analysis and research to formulate evidence-based advice on a range of policy issues relevant to the department and Deputy Premier.

These positions make pivotal contributions to a dynamic, central policy area that supports the department’s purpose as it works to secure responsible economic development, safe and fair workplaces and liveable communities.

The Principal Policy Officer position is an exciting opportunity to join the Strategic Policy and Research (SPR) team in the Strategic Policy and Insights division of the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning. This team plays a key role in driving the department's and portfolio's strategic priorities by collaborating with colleagues across the department, other government agencies, and stakeholders to deliver impactful policy and legislative outcomes including through Cabinet and other governance mechanisms.

  • using your knowledge and skills to provide specialist policy and legislative advice and services at both the group and broader department level, focusing on gathering business intelligence, providing advice on legislative processes, and undertaking technical research.

About The Role

As a Principal Policy Officer, SPR, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Build and maintain strong networks and collaborative relationships across government, industry, and stakeholders to support the department's strategic goals, while providing legislative and policy advice on Cabinet, Parliamentary processes, and legislation.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development, deliver well-considered briefings and reports for senior leaders, and lead strategic policy, legislative coordination, and engagement projects.
  • Manage competing priorities effectively, contribute to a positive team culture, and represent the department in forums and committees, ensuring timely delivery of tasks and high-quality outcomes.
