Description:

Our team works to keep our community safe by enacting systems to effectively regulate the acquisition, possession, use and disposal of registered firearms and weapons as envisaged by the Weapons Act 1990 (Qld). Through our work we enable people with a genuine need and reason to own and operate a weapon.

You will be responsible as an Authorised Officer (delegate) under the Weapons Act 1990 in determining applications for licences and permit to acquire firearms in accordance with legislative requirements.

Your Key Accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Administer, assess and respond to applications to review a decision under the Weapons Act.
  • Respond to enquiries, assist in the completion of forms and liaise with QCAT registry regarding Weapons Licensing applications within required timeframes.
  • Research legal and policy issues associated with the Weapons Act reviews and provide detailed and thorough recommendations to the Weapons Licensing Review Officer.
  • Manage the approved issue, withdrawal, suspension, revocation, replacement and surrender of licences, permits and other authorities as required by legislation, standards and guidelines and provide recommendations as required.
  • Adjudicate on licence applications processed by the Weapons Licensing.
  • Provide briefings to Weapons Licensing management concerning weapons related QCAT decisions and trends in weapons licence applications to inform future policy amendments.
  • Communicate regarding QCAT and other Weapons Licensing review proceedings in writing or orally with internal and external stakeholders including legal representatives.
  • Assist with the coordination, development and review of submissions relating to applications for QCAT and other weapons licensing review proceedings.
  • Provide advice to the Weapons Licence Review Officer on issues that contribute to the development of policy, practice and procedures relating to decisions made under the Weapons Act.
