The candidate will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with the Biosecurity Act 2014 by engaging with industry stakeholders, conducting onsite assessments, and supporting the enforcement of biosecurity measures. They will provide guidance to stakeholders to promote understanding and voluntary compliance, undertake risk assessments of biosecurity threats, and maintain accurate records to support decision-making. The candidate will also contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance practices and mentor other officers in the field.
Key Responsibilities/Outputs
- Conduct onsite assessments of biosecurity compliance, provide guidance to stakeholders, and address non-compliance through written or verbal communication.
- Perform preliminary risk assessments of biosecurity threats, such as fire ant infestations, and escalate high-risk incidents as required.
- Maintain accurate records of onsite findings and contribute to the improvement of compliance activities through mentoring and collaboration with colleagues.
- A current unrestricted “C” Class Driver's Licence
- Appointment as a Queensland Biosecurity Authorised Inspector or strong knowledge of the legal requirements of an authorised officer under a relevant Act or Regulation would be highly regarded.
- Experience in explaining compliance requirements to encourage voluntary compliance with biosecurity requirements.
- Excellent information, evidence gathering and analysis skills, including the ability to write up clear report/statements of fact and recommendations.
